proposition 8 protests continue and yesterday over 20,000 people marched throughout california. in the largest gathering so far, police estimated a crowd of 12,500 marched through silverlake last night and actions were planned today for east l.a. and downtown.
momentum is definitely building and in what could be the next largest action simultaneous protests are being co-ordinated around the country for this saturday november 15th. in l.a. the event will take place at city hall at 10:30am. for more info click on http://www.jointheimpact.com/.
and in what might be a reaction to the hundreds of thousands of signatures in an online petition directed to him the los angeles times reported today that republican governor arnold schwarzenneger expressed hope that the california supreme court would eventually overturn prop 8.
meanwhile, at last night's march a massive police presence shut down vermont, sunset and santa monica blvds and you could feel the energy of the massive crowd as they sang, danced, marched and chanted their way through the neighborhood. there were signs reading 'when do i get to vote on your marriage?', 'no more mr. nice gay' and one held by a drag queen that read 'i'm tired of being a bridesmaid'. my favorite? - 'all i want for christmas is my civil rights'.
